Getting Experience
Whether you’re pursuing a minor, BA, or BS, our computer science program equips students with hands-on, practical experience in the classroom. Students develop problem-solving, programming, and analytical skills through applied coursework that prepares them for internships, research opportunities, and future careers.
Of course the classroom isn't the only place our students gain career experience. Many also participate in research or teaching assistantships, internships, and career-related clubs. These opportunities help them explore different areas of interests and get a better idea of what they might want out of a career.

Summer Research Experience
The InnovateCS Research Grant is a unique program only for University of Rochester undergraduate students. The program offers structured, hands-on research experiences that help students begin their academic and professional paths in computer science.
As part of this program, students will work over the summer by assisting in current research projects in the computer science department.

Internships
Internships allow students to get practical office experience and see what life may be like after graduation. Through these experiences, students gain not just on-the-job skills but also gives students ways to grow their network and connect with possible mentors.
Visit the University’s Internships website for information on how to prepare for and find internship opportunities.
