This command increases the speed of the entire simulation while holding the framerate constant. In other words, with a speed factor of 2.0, what would normally take 2 minutes and 120 frames in Quake will now take 1 minute and 120 frames, because each frame represents twice as much time. With high speed factors, this can cause some instability (for example, falling off a high cliff may not kill the player).
This command affects everything about the game that happens within the client and server virtual machines. In other words, this includes movement speeds, firing rates, acceleration due to gravity, animation speeds, rocket travel times, and so on. It may also affect apparent ping times, I'm not sure.
Parameters:
- 1: float factor - the factor to set the simulation speed to (1 is normal, 2 is twice as fast, 0.5 is half as fast, etc). Do not use 0 or very magical things will happen until you change it back. We recommend that you use to pause the simulation instead.
Reports:
- done when the task completes.
Example:
- User sends: "su 512 2"
- Director replies: "cp su 512 done"
- Server: qg_simulationspeed changed to 2.0
