In fall 2010, members of the Delta Upsilon fraternity at the University of Rochester invited me to deliver a “last lecture”—the sort of talk I might choose to give if it were going to be my last. After some hesitation (and encouragement from friends) I agreed, and the talk took place the evening of Dec. 2. Video taping didn’t work out, but I’ve created a rough transcript of what I said.
