Randy Pausch was a computer scientist. I never met him, and our research was in different areas, but I have colleagues here who knew him, and I feel at least a certain amount of professional kinship. It also turns out that Pausch and I shared the same religious faith. Near the beginning of his last lecture, he noted that while many would expect a dying man to talk about religion, he wasn’t going to do that. Well, I am, because it’s a huge part of who I am, and it’s the foundation of everything else I want to talk about this evening.
