Iftekhar Naim, URCS Grad Student
About Me
I am Iftekhar Naim, a PhD student at the Computer Science Department, in the University of Rochester. My home country is Bangladesh, a beautiful country in South Asia. I am interested in statistical machine learning research and its applications to Natural Language Processing, Bioinformatics, and Computer Vision. I am interested in information extraction from unstructured, multilingual text data. My advisor is Prof. Dan Gildea.
Research Interests
Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Bioinformatics, Computer Vision.
Research Projects
Convergence of the EM Algorithm
Currently I am studying the convergence behavior of the Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm in the presence of unbalanced mixing coefficients.
Flow Cytometry Clustering
As a part of my masters thesis, I have worked on clustering large, high-dimensional flow cytometry data. The goal of my thesis was to devise scalable and efficient clustering algorithms for automated identification of biologically meaningful cell populations. We collaborate with the Rochester Human Immunology Center (RHIC) in the University of Rochester Medical Center.
I have participated in the FlowCAP competition for automated flow cytometry data analysis tasks. Our clustering method SWIFT shows competitive performance in various flow cytometry data analysis tasks.
